ALPHA

The Alpha course is an opportunity for everyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed, non-threatening environment. The course is normally held on one evening a week for 10 weeks. The evening begins with a meal followed by a talk on an issue such as 'Who is Jesus'. Afterwards, we go into small groups to discuss the issues raised in the talk. Whether you have someone else to come with or not, you will be made very welcome and will immediately find yourself talking to people.

A is for anyone. Anyone can come along and meet new friends. People come to Alpha who are perhaps new to the parish, or who have been in the area a long time and have been coming to the church for years.

L is for learning and laughter. The course helps us look at the basics of Christian faith, whether we are searching for something to believe in, or wanting to strengthen the faith we already have. As well as being very interesting, and at times even exciting, much fun and many laughs are had along the way!

P is for pasta...... and all the other wonderful food which is served at the beginning of the evening each week! Over a delicious two-course meal provided by members of St. James' you can chat and enjoy the company of the others and build new friendships.

H is for helping. The course leaders help stimulate and guide very interesting discussions, but as you find answers to your questions, your ideas and opinions will be helping others cast light on things which had been puzzling them.

A is for ask anything. No question is too silly or difficult. Whatever bothers you or you feel curious about can be freely expressed in a warm, friendly atmosphere, and every effort will be made to help you find an answer. Your question is often echoed by others who might not have liked to ask!
