Sometimes it makes sense to join with other churches within Bishop's Stortford in order to achieve maximum benefit for participants. Alpha:
The Alpha course is an opportunity to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed, non-threatening environment. St. James' normally runs one Alpha course each year, usually starting in January. The course is on one evening a week for 10 weeks. The evening begins with a meal followed by a talk and discussion on issues such as 'Who is Jesus'.

St James' organises a special event, normally annually, for people who are new to the church. This is a 'Meet the Church' occasion when, over snacks and drinks, newcomers get the chance to meet the clergy, the Church leadership and others who are involved in some serving capacity.
Spring Harvest:
Spring Harvest is a Christian conference held every Easter, which attracts many thousands of Christians of all ages and church backgrounds. The venues are usually the Butlins Resorts at Skegness on the Lincolnshire coast and Minehead in Somerset.
Marriage: The Marriage Course is designed to help any married couple strengthen their relationship. It’s a great opportunity to spend time together as a couple looking at the important issues in your marriage. Parenting: The parenting course is a friendly, informal course run by the Mothers' Union and aimed at parents with children between the ages of 0 and 6 years. There are seven weekly evening sessions, with an optional eighth session, and it is open to both couples and parents attending on their own. The course takes place at the Emmaus Centre. Read More
Parenting Teenagers: This informal and fun-filled course is aimed at helping parents gain a better understanding of teenagers and their needs. We use Family Caring Trust material. Read More
