The Mothers’ Union supports marriage and Christian family life and seeks to help those whose lives have met with adversity. It is a world-wide organisation with over a million members in more than 60 countries. Members receive a quarterly magazine, 'Home and Family', filled with articles about how members are supporting families around the world, from setting up toddler groups or prisoner visiting schemes in Britain, to helping women in Africa set up their own work co-operative to help support their families. The magazine also contains features, book reviews, recipes and readers' letters and is an excellent resource for discovering what the organisation is all about.
Membership is open to anyone who has been baptised in the name of the Holy Trinity and who shares the beliefs of the Mothers' Union. Men as well as women are welcome, you do not have to be married, and you do not have have children.
All meetings begin with prayer, we have a worldwide prayer diary and members promise to include prayer, worship and Bible readings as part of their daily lives. We meet once a month, on the second Tuesday or Wednesday evening of the month, except August and December.
Meetings start at 8.00pm and take place in members' homes. The content of meetings is varied to encompass both spiritual and social interests, and includes such things as quiet evenings, Bible study, bring & share suppers, listening to a guest speaker, sharing favourite poems or readings, discussion of specific issues relating to family life or meeting other groups from within the church.
Details of monthly meetings can be found on the Mothers' Union noticeboard in the St Barnabas Centre, or published in Get Connected!. If you would like further information, please contact Matilda Essien or Lynn Pickering, the Branch Leaders.
