Music is at the heart of our worship at St. James' with our musical activities led and coordinated by our Director of Music.
We are privileged to have many people with musical skills at St James the Great, Thorley. During the year, you will see us leading special services and events, including Joint Services, the annual Confirmation Service and Carol Service, weddings, carol-singing at Premier Court, Parkside & Sainsbury’s, and St James’ Festival of Flowers & Music. However, on regular Sundays we break into smaller groups supporting the 9:00 and 10:30 Sunday morning services, allowing individuals to enjoy their preferred styles of worship and music.
Jubilate leads music at the 9:00 a.m. held in the Church. Singers are welcome at all services, although some people find that a monthly commitment fits in with other commitments. Practices are held on Wednesday evenings in the Church. People aged 7 years and above with an enthusiasm for singing and worship are welcome. Jubilate enjoys a variety of hymns, anthems and songs, many with 4-part harmonies, and even some in Latin. St James' Church is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and offers the RSCM Voice For Life programme. Occasionally concerts are organised, consisting of individual & group items – songs, poetry, instrumentals, gospel rock.
The Music Group provides leadership for the more informal service at 10:30 a.m. - except on the first Sunday of the month. It also enjoys a wide range of songs and hymns. The practices are held on Monday evenings.
On the first Sunday of each month we encourage instrumentalists to join with singers to lead the All Age Service at 10:30 a.m.
If music in worship/worshipping through music is important to you, please contact our Director of Music.
