This Acorn Christian Listeners course will introduce the idea of the ministry of listening, and the skills of listening more effectively to others, to God and to ourselves.
Who is it for? It is open to anyone who would like to be a better listener in his or her everyday life at home, at work and at church. It introduces a safe, disciplined way of listening, but it is not a training in counselling. The course consists of four sessions. Each session of the course depends on the one before, and participants are asked not to enrol unless they expect to attend every session. It is open to all, lay and ordained, and of any denomination, but it is probably not appropriate for those recently bereaved or currently under extreme stress.
What’s involved? Sessions are practical, and you will be asked to explore some of your own concerns and feelings as you talk to a "listener" who will be another member of the group. You will not be expected to divulge anything you do not want the other person to hear. When you are the listener, you will need to keep confidential whatever your speaker shares with you.
Please bring along an A4 ring binder or similar to keep the course notes easily accessible. Please bring a packed lunch; refreshments will be provided.
What will it cost? The cost for the course will be £28. Should you have any special needs that it would be helpful for us to know about, or if you have any difficulty with meeting the cost of the course, please contact the course organiser (see below). We would not wish anyone to be excluded, and help with the cost is available.
For details about when we are running the next course please contact us at the parish office.
