Spring Harvest is a christian conference that is held every
Easter, and which attracts many thousands of Christians of all ages and
church backgrounds. The venues are usually the Butlins Resorts at Skegness
on the Lincolnshire coast and Minehead in Somerset.
The conference is a week-long programme of bible teaching, seminars, workshops and inspiring worship, all led by well-known local and international teachers, theologians, musicians and worship leaders. Resource exhibitions and performances by established music bands and theatre companies are a popular feature of the week. However, people may choose to do as much or as little of the organised activities as they want.
Another big attraction of the week, especially for the young, is the opportunity to spend time doing all the usual Butlins fun activities - swimming, sports, rides, go-carting and so on. The children's programmes include discussions, teaching, singing, competitions, crafts, drama and outdoor games. Most parents find that their children, even the very young, very quickly become whole-hearted in their commitment to their group activities.
A large number of people (over 100) from St James' go to Skegness each year and a few go to Minehead. For most people, Spring Harvest is a time of relaxation, reflection and renewal. Many first-timers, young and old, typically comment on how their apprehension at spending a week in 'unfriendly' surroundings with 'hysterical' christians very quickly turned into a desire to repeat the experience.
The bookings for Skegness are organised by the church but individuals may choose to book directly. Bookings have to be confirmed in June for the following Easter. If you require more information, please contact Sue Carr or Jan Dean.
